To better understand the cost of full mouth dental implants, let me begin differentiating between removable implant-supported denture and a fixed implant-supported denture or bridge. Terminolog full-mouth dental implants can sometimes be confusing and talking to friends and family may misguide you.
The phrase ” Full mouth dental implants ” is casually used by both dentists and patients as more and more full mouth rehabilitations are performed using dental implants both for edentulous patients as well as those who have hopeless teeth, who are ready to have them extracted. The phrase falsely implies a patient is receiving a full set of dental implants where every single tooth is replaced by an implant. Even though there are cases where a dentist and a patient may agree to this overly-engineered, and structurally sound concept, often most jaw rehabilitation can be successfully done with fewer than 10 dental implants per jaw.
We all know single dental implants are expensive and can cost anywhere from $1000-$3000 per implant fixture. However, by strategically positioning dental implants in the jaw bone, clinicians are able to build a full set of teeth over much fewer dental implants. Obviously, the cost of full-mouth dental implants varies depending on the number of implants placed as well as the type or brand of dental implants. Be sure to check out our blog on the top 12 dental implant brands.
Over the years and tens of thousands of clinical cases have shown more dental implants supporting a dental bridge is better as it offers more stability and it mitigates the risk of the dental bridge collapse in case of few implant failures. However, over-engineering can also become a problem.
First, some researchers and clinicians such as Professor Paulo Malo, the inventor of the All On 4 treatment concept explain more dental implants in the jaw limits the blood flow to the bone which can create a dead bone or necrosis. Personally, as a clinician, I have never seen an individual with 12 dental implants placed, ending up losing part of their jaw because of Professor Malo’s claim. However, theoretically, what he is explaining does make sense. After all, the jaw bone is live tissue, and drilling more holes and placing implant fixtures reduces the vascularity.
The second problem is, more dental implants will add considerably to the cost of full-mouth dental implants. This additional cost is not only related to the cost of each additional dental implant fixture. With more additional dental implants, especially in the back of the jaws, often bone grafting becomes required. All of which, which delays treatment time and require multiple visits to the dentist all leading to higher cost of full mouth dental implants.
All On 4 treatment concept further developed by Malo from his predecessors, addressed both of the problems cited above. All On 4 is a treatment concept where an edentulous patient can receive a full set of teeth placed permanently over only four dental implants. The concept is an excellent treatment solution for patients with the very limited jaw bone. However, the treatment concept is being overly marketed and used by many dentists. Many clinicians
The other misnomer often circulating among patients is comparing the cost of removable implant-supported dentures with a fixed implant supported-dental bridge. Even though patients who choose a removable style of dental implants often refer to their prosthesis as full mouth dental implants, there must be a clear distinction when comparing the cost of full mouth dental implants. So by hearing someone claiming they spent $10,000 vs. another patient who claims who has spent $70,000, without fully understanding exactly what was involved in each treatment, it may become a source of confusion.

As you can see the cost of a full jaw dental implant varies based on the type of prosthesis as well as the country where the treatment is being performed. In countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and Singapore with higher labor costs, the treatments are much more expensive than countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, or India.
Another cost that is often ignored at the initial consultation with dentists, is the cost of maintenance. Removable Implant-Supported Dentures have a lower initial treatment cost but higher long-term maintenance cost compared to Implant-Supported Fixed dental bridges.
