Tooth Core Build Up

Tooth Core Build up is an artificially restorative Dental procedure replacing missing tooth structure with special filling material . In cases where the tooth has been decayed so badly because nothing remains of the original crown, then it is not possible to fit that tooth with an artificial crown as well because there is not enough anchorage left for the crown to be affixed on.

In these cases, if the root of the tooth is still intact, then a good root canal treatment, followed by dental reconstruction of the tooth core and tooth stump helps in the fixing up of an artificial crown. To make the crown more stable, a part of the tooth core is hollowed out and a pivot is inserted to provide further support to the new crown.

When a tooth caries is detected, first the entire caries is completely removed then the dental reconstruction of tooth core is started, the first step of which is the insertion of a fibre glass pivot to support the insufficient tooth stump. After the glass fibre post is inserted and stuck with the help of glue, it is left to harden for a few minutes and then the protruding remains are removed and the rest of the tooth core is built up. The dental posts being used in dental tooth core build up are made of both steel and fibre glass. However, the use of steel for the making of posts to support dental reconstruction is increasingly becoming rarer because of the associated risks of tooth fracture.
