Replacing amalgam fillings

The dentist will start by taking an x-ray of the tooth to see the size of the amalgam filling to ensure that the tooth doesn’t have any cracks. If this is the case the dentist might recommend a root canal or extraction instead. After numbing the tooth, the dentist will place a rubber dam to prevent you from swallowing any of the material as it is being removed. When the old amalgam filling has been removed, then the dentist will build up the tooth again with a composite filling.

Root Canal

Root canal therapy is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Root canal procedures have a reputation of being painful however, most people say that it is more painful than having a filling done. The discomfort leading up to seeking dental care is what is painful, not the root canal procedure itself.

Extractions

Before doing an extraction, we ensure that you are properly numb. If the tooth is impacted, the dentist will need to cut away gum and bone tissue that gain proper access. Once the tooth has been pulled, a blood clot usually forms in the socket. The dentist will pack a gauze pad into the socket and have you bite down on it to help stop the bleeding. If the extraction was surgical, the dentist will place a few stitches — usually self-dissolving — to close the gum edges over the extraction site.

Dental Implants

Before the dentist can do the implant surgery, the jawbone will need to be thoroughly assessed with a panoramic x-ray. In some cases, the jawbone is thin, and we will need to perform a bone graft to make the bone thick enough for the implant. In other cases, the jawbone is close to the sinus, and we will need to perform sinus lifting to make space for the implant. The implant(s) are set in one visit. A temporary crown will be made and placed on the implant. The implant will undergo osseointegration (where it fuses to the jawbone) for a minimum of 4 months, after which the permanent crown, bridge, or denture can be attached.

What aesthetic treatments do we do at Rejuvie Dental Clinic?

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening lighten teeth and help to remove stains and discoloration. Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. Whitening is not a one-time procedure. It will need to be repeated from time to time if you want to maintain a brighter color.

Crown

A crown is used to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape, or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Porcelain bonded to a metal shell is often used because it is both strong and attractive.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges. Your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations, and cost.

Veneers

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require the removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.
