Dental Implants at Advanced Dental Group

Patients with single, multiple, or complete tooth loss may benefit from dental implant treatment. Dental implants are titanium screws that are surgically placed into the jawbone underneath your gums. As implants are fused to the jaw-bone, they are very stable and can feel almost identical to natural teeth.

What are the benefits of an implant crown?

If you are missing only one tooth, a crown that is attached to a dental implant will be an ideal choice. The dentist replaces the individual tooth without jeopardising the health of the adjacent teeth. Dental implants are also much easier to care for, as they can be brushed and flossed like natural teeth.

How is it done?

First, a titanium implant is placed under the gums and within the bone. Next, depending on the type of implant system and the patient’s treatment requirements, the prosthetic abutment, which connects the implant to the artificial teeth, maybe placed immediately or during a second surgery which can take up to half a year wait. Lastly, after the gums have sufficiently healed, an artificial tooth will be fabricated and fitted onto the implant. This procedure can take up to 2 months.

What are the benefits of an implant retained denture?

If you are missing all of your teeth in either your upper or lower jaw, or both jaws, a removable denture can be attached to the dental implant. Traditional full dentures have nothing to hold them in place, except for the suction force under the dentures. Hence, many patients suffer from loose dentures that cannot be made any tighter. Implants will hold on to the dentures so that they will not slip out. This makes it much easier to chew and also more comfortable than traditional dentures.

What is the difference between an implant-retained and implant-supported denture?

Similar to implant-retained dentures, implant-supported dentures are removable dentures that are attached to dental implants. The only difference is that implant-supported dentures are both retained and fully supported by an implant bar.

What are the benefits of implant-supported dentures?

Unlike implant-retained dentures that still rest partially on the gums, implant-supported dentures are fully supported by the implant bar. Hence, they are a lot more rigid and are able to generate stronger biting forces.
